Toyota Museum Visitation by UNAIR Student in Japan
UNAIR NEWS – Japan has long been recognized as one of the world’s leaders in automotive innovation, with Nagoya standing as an important center of industrial development and technological progress. In this dynamic setting, students from Universitas Airlangga’s International BBK 8 program had the opportunity to explore Toyota’s automobile technologies and observe how innovation continues to shape the future of mobility.
As the automotive industry faces pressure to become more efficient and sustainable, companies like Toyota continue to develop technologies that respond to both market demands and social responsibility. Japan’s industrial environment offers an important learning space for students who want to understand how innovation is applied in real-world settings. The visit to Nagoya gave UNAIR International BBK 8 students a closer look at how major industries integrate technology, research, and education into their operations.
Toyota’s innovation ecosystem reflects a strong commitment to continuous improvement and adaptation. “The company’s approach to automobile development is not limited to producing vehicles, but also includes research, engineering refinement, digital transformation, and environmentally conscious practices” said one of the tour guides. For the students, this was an opportunity to see how modern industrial systems are built on collaboration, creativity, and long-term vision. Students were able to gain knowledge directly from an industrial setting, which enriches understanding and strengthens their readiness for future professional roles, supporting SDG 4. Educational experiences like this help build competencies that cannot be obtained from textbooks alone. Toyota’s emphasis on technological advancement, efficient production, and sustainable industrial systems reflects the core spirit of SDG 9. By observing these practices, students learned how innovation can support resilient infrastructure, productive industry, and long-term development.
Together, SDG 4 and SDG 9 show the importance of connecting education with innovation. A strong education system produces skilled individuals, while a strong industrial ecosystem provides the space for those skills to grow and contribute to society. Through this visit, UNAIR International BBK 8 students saw how both goals can reinforce each other in building a more sustainable future.
The experience in Nagoya also offers lessons for Indonesian Industries. Strengthening partnerships between universities and industry can open more opportunities for student learning, research collaboration, and technology transfer. In this way, international exposure becomes not only an academic experience but also a source of inspiration for national development.
Through their visit to Toyota in Nagoya, UNAIR International BBK 8 students gained valuable insight into the relationship between education, innovation, and industrial progress and hope to contribute to its development.
